99 Cobra Half Shaft Failure Photos

The following photos were provided by Corner-Carver.  There are of his left side half shaft that failed during drag race session in January, 2000, using drag radials and 4.10 gears.

"Just a bit of info for all of you guys out there that have the intent of running these cars down the 1320. This past Thursday night, I was trying out the new setup I got with the 4.10's and Nitto 275/40 Drag Radials. It was brutally cold so only about ten       cars were stupid enough to be running (me included). First run, didn't warm the tires up very much, and spun like hell at the line and then into second. Came back around and waited about five minutes. While waiting, dropped the air pressure from 22psi to 20psi.  Warmed the tires a little more, then staged.

Raised launch rpm to 3200. Car bogged at the line and killed the et. Circled back feeling good that I could raise the launch rpm more to keep the car from bogging. This time I didn't back into the water box!! Backed up in front of the box to spin and clean the tires for a second. Raised the rpm to about 3500rpm and dumped the clutch. WHAM!

Pressed the clutch in and let her roll back in front of the offices. A friend of mine (he's got ZR-1, he's broke two axles) came over and we looked under the car. I was hoping it was the U-joints but when the car rolled back and I didn't hear any scraping I knew it wasn't that. Sure enough, it was a broken halfshaft. Driver's side."

I welcome receiving pictures of any other half-shaft failures.  Thanks Corner-Carver for the first one.
